BYU lost its second straight game at home, losing a defensive battle against Air Force 24-10. The Cougars' defense had another great game, holding the Falcons' potent triple option to nearly 150 yards below its season average.

BYU was driving to tie the game at 17 late in the fourth quarter, but a Marcus Whalen fumble derailed the Cougar comeback bid. Air Force added a touchdown as time expired to extend its lead to 14.

The game went back and forth as BYU opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 35-yard field goal by Matt Payne. Air Force scored 10 unanswered points to take a 10-3 lead in the third quarter. BYU knotted the game at ten following a 25-yard pass from John Beck to Phillip Niu. But the Falcons would score the game's final 14 points to earn the win.
