Boise State jumped out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter and didn't look back, defeating the Cougars 50-12 — BYU's fourth loss in a row at home. The Broncos got on the board first after blocking a Matt Payne punt and recovering the ball in the end zone. Boise State's defense also forced the Cougars into four interceptions.

BYU scored two safeties in the game. The Cougars' lone touchdown came on a one-yard run by Tafui Vakapuna, followed by a two-point conversion by Toby Christensen.

Despite the lopsided score, the Cougar defense held the potent Bronco offense 136 yards below their per game average.
