Game Notes

First game in BYU history where both teams were ranked in the AP Poll at the time of the game.

Billed as the game that would determine the WAC championship, the contest drew the largest football crowd in Arizona history-58,295. The Cougars hurt themselves in five turnovers (fumbles and interceptions) in its first 12 offensive plays. By halftime the Sun Devils had a 17-0 lead, and it was 24-7 going into the fourth quarter. Wilson completed only three of eight passes in the first half, but finished with a 38-21-3 in passing, and only one touchdown. Ironically the Cougars had the advantage in total yardage, 3/5 to 374, which tells you something about the turnovers.
