Before the season started, the dopesters had this one tagged as the WAC game that would determine the championship. Both came into the game with identical 2-1 league records. Game got off to a wild start with the score reading 21-17, ASU, at the end of the first quarter. Nielsen hit 20 of 37 (two touchdowns), and Blanc kept the Devils honest with 82 yards rushing for 20 carries. Taylor kicked three field goals (longest of 45 yards) and added four extra points. Edwards described the game as, "one of the best wins we have ever had, and a total effort by the players and coaches." ASU was 4-7 for season.
