It was a tale of two halves as BYU scored 38 points in the second half to defeat Air Force, 41-24, at Falcon Stadium. It was the first Cougar win at Air Force since the 1994 season and the first time BYU had won back-to-back games since the 2002 season. With the win, the Cougars took sole possession of second place in the Mountain West Conference at 3-1.

Curtis Brown rushed for 128 yards on 22 carries, his third 100-yard rushing game of the season. John Beck got hot in the second half to finish 20-of-31 for 319 yards, a career-high four touchdowns and one interception. Todd Watkins torched the Falcons' secondary for six receptions for 153 yards and one touchdown.

The offensive showcase did not start right away. The Cougars' offense sputtered in the first half, only scoring three points on a 23-yard Matt Payne field goal in the first quarter. Air Force went into the locker room up 10-3 at halftime, having scored on a 29-yard run by Darnell Stephens and a 48-yard field goal by Michael Greenaway.

The second half was a different story. Thirty-three seconds into the third quarter, the Cougars scored on a 70-yard pass from Beck to Watkins. Later in the quarter, Beck hit Dennis Pitta for an 11-yard touchdown pass to give BYU the lead. Two minutes later the Cougars were in the end zone again after an eight-yard blocked punt return for a touchdown by Gary Lovely, making the score 24-10.

While Air Force added two touchdowns in the fourth, Austin Collie and Pitta each added touchdown receptions and Matt Payne drilled a 53-yard field goal to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
