With temperatures below freezing and strong winds, the two teams were slow in getting started. Nielsen passed for two touchdowns and the Cougars were ahead 12-0 at the half. A field goal by Taylor moved the score to 15-0. Giff put the game on ice with another TD pass to Van Der Wouden. Not an outstanding game, but it moved BYU closer to a share of the title. The Lobos finished with a 4-7 overall record.
